Importing Prescription Drugs From Canada Won’t Solve U.S. Drug Price Issues
A recent letter claimed that importing prescription drugs from Canada would help more Americans get the drugs they need, and while this is true, there are many risks to importing from Canadian pharmacies.
Some states allow prescription drugs to be imported from Canada (Florida, Vermont, Colorado, Maine, New Mexico and New Hampshire), but there is no guarantee that imported drugs meet Food and Drug Administration standards. And with increased interest in Canadian drugs, importation could threaten Canada’s drug supply.
Americans who import prescription drugs save money, but these savings come with other costs and risks for the consumer. The FDA does not have the authority to approve drugs in Canada, so these drugs – and drugs imported from elsewhere – are subject to several vulnerabilities such as counterfeiting or contamination, as the FDA warned. in 2018.
The FDA said that when websites, where many can get prescription drugs from Canada, receive warning letters from the FDA, 70% continue to engage in illicit activity. The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities, an association based in Canada, agrees that Canadian pharmacists should not break these boundaries.
Canada’s healthcare system cannot handle the amount of US prescriptions that would need to be filled to help Americans and their drug price reduction needs. A 2017 study found that Canada would run out of prescription drugs in 183 days if only 20% of US prescriptions were filled in Canada.
Purchasing prescription drugs in Canada is not a viable or long-term solution to alleviating drug pricing issues in the United States, as the FDA cannot guarantee the efficacy, safety, or supply of these drugs. Other avenues must be explored instead of trying to use a healthcare system that was designed for another country and the needs of its citizens.

The next move on January 6 belongs to Merrick Garland
The House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, uprising has done a masterful job of exposing the seriousness of this stain on our nation’s history, including the role played by its lead actor, Donald Trump. . No reasonable person can argue that the facts are unclear as to the design and scope of this nefarious plot: an incumbent president, overwhelmingly defeated, employed a cast of morally bankrupt characters to attempt to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power. This is the unvarnished truth, pure and simple.
While every detail of this failed coup may never be known, the dedicated members of the House Committee laid bare the corruption of these bad actors, showed that the Justice Department must take action determined to prevent the repetition of another such assault on our government.
Attorney General Merrick Garland, the next step is up to you.
