Texas has spent more on prescription drugs than any state since 2019
Texas spent $35.15 billion on prescription drugs in 2019, the most recent year for which data is available, according to a new report from online pharmaceutical company NiceRx. It is the most among the 50 US states.
$19.7 billion was spent from commercial sources, NiceRx found, including $11.79 billion from Medicare and $2.74 billion from Medicaid. More than $926 million in cash was spent on prescription drugs in Texas in 2019.
