Two arrested with prescription drugs in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Racecourse Police arrested two people on Saturday in possession of 590 tablets of two different prescription drugs.

Those arrested were identified as K. Sivasuriya (25), a resident of Indira Nagar in Selvapuram, and K. Kishore Kumar (24) from Thirumanimuthar, near Gugai in Salem district.

A team led by Race Couse Sub-Inspector Vignesh found the two in suspicious circumstances near a courier office in Pappanaickenpalayam on Saturday morning. They were found carrying 200 painkiller tablets and 390 tablets used to treat sleep disorders. According to the police, the two men could not produce a prescription from a licensed doctor, who is required to buy the two drugs and use them. The police seized the tablets, a two-wheeler and a mobile phone from them. Sivasurya and Kishore Kumar were arrested for offenses under Sections 8(c) read together with 22(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. They were brought before a court and taken into custody.

In a separate case, police in Podanur arrested four people with 150 tapentadol tablets, 40 nitrazepam tablets, sodium chloride injection and Zam Zam Nagar syringes on Saturday. Those arrested were identified as Abubakkar Siddiq (28 years old) and Sharuk Khan (25 years old) from Bharathi Nagar near Podanur, Abdul Latheef (27 years old) from Gandhi Nagar near Kuniyamuthur and B. Rasheed (33 years old) from the TNHB unit in Ukkadam. Police also seized two motorcycles they were using.
