Two youngsters rushed to hospital after taking powerful prescription drugs meant to treat severe back pain and migraines

Two youngsters were rushed to hospital on Friday night after taking strong prescription drugs that weren’t prescribed to them.
The two, who were believed to have been together on the night of June 24, needed medical attention after taking what police believe was amitriptyline. The drug is a powerful pain reliever most commonly used to treat back pain and migraines.
Dyfed-Powys Police warned against taking non-prescription drugs after the incident in the Haverfordwest area on June 24-25. Officers are urging anyone who has been offered the drug not to take it as the side effects could be serious.
Inspector Reuben Palin said: ‘We know of young people using prescription drugs that were not prescribed to them. We believe the young people had been in each other’s company. Like any drug abuse, using prescription drugs for the wrong reasons carries serious health risks for a person.
“We call on anyone who falls ill to seek medical attention immediately.”
